PETALING JAYA, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club today welcomed 10 new members, known as the “Vibrant Voices 2025”, who officially graduated after completing a 10-week public speaking programme.
Club president Tunku Dara Tunku Tan Sri Naquiah Tuanku Ja'afar said the group had spent weeks stepping out of their comfort zones by attending weekly sessions, completing assignments and taking turns hosting classes - all part of the intensive training before being accepted as full members of the club.
“Members who join the club need to know public speaking because that is what it’s all about. They have to be proposed and seconded by club members to join the course, go through an interview by the committee, and only after graduating, are they accepted as members,” she said in her speech at the club’s 61st graduation ceremony here today.
The event was attended by Biduanita Negara Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin, whom Tunku Dara Naquiah described as a national icon and an inspiration for her achievements in music, business and humanitarian efforts. Siti Nurhaliza later presented certificates to the graduates.
Tunku Dara Naquiah also expressed her appreciation to volunteer instructor Dr Baljit Kaur for her dedication in conducting the course.
“It takes a lot of time and effort to make sure that everything is perfect and she (Dr Baljit) did it willingly, as many do not realise that the public speaking classes are organised once a year as a recruitment drive to be a member of the Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club,” she added.
Formed in 1970 by a group of women who had attended a 1969 public speaking course conducted by the late Begum Shaikh, wife of the then Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia, the Kuala Lumpur Speakers’ Club has grown into a platform for women to enhance their communication skills and foster camaraderie.
