PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Foreign Ministry, through its embassy in Bangkok, is providing assistance to two Malaysians injured in an incident in Ratchadamri, Bangkok on Aug 7.
Both victims are being treated in separate hospitals, the Ministry said in a statement Saturday.
The embassy is liaising with the attending medical teams and facilitating travel arrangements for the victims’ immediate family members, who are expected to arrive in Bangkok on Saturday.
Consular officers have visited the victims to monitor their condition and ensure they and their families receive the necessary support.
The ministry said it has been informed that the Thai authorities are conducting a full investigation into the incident.
“Malaysia places its full trust in the Thai authorities to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation and will provide full cooperation as required. The public is advised not to speculate on the incident and to allow the investigative process to take its course,” read the statement.
It added that all Malaysian missions abroad remain committed to safeguarding the welfare of citizens overseas and will continue to extend assistance when needed.
Malaysians requiring consular help may contact the nearest Malaysian mission or the Ministry’s Consular Division.
Bernama on Friday reported that the two Malaysian tourists, a man identified as Ong, 26, and a woman known as Gan, 27, were critically injured after being set on fire by an unemployed man in Thailand’s capital.
The incident occurred at around 10 pm when the suspect came up from behind and poured thinner onto the pair who were seated on the step near a shopping centre.
