ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 28 (Bernama) -- The Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign (KBBM) 2025 themed ‘Jom Beli Lokal’ has received a positive response from traders and visitors at the Southern Zone Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Carnival Tour held here.
A Bernama check found that most visitors and entrepreneurs welcomed the initiative, viewing it as a timely move to strengthen demand for local products and benefit micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Café owner Roslinda Basir, 51, said the campaign has opened more opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs to promote their products directly to consumers.
“At this carnival, I’m selling nasi ambang with a variety of homemade side dishes and sambal. The response over the past two days has been very encouraging.
“With continued support from the government, more Malaysians will get to know and have confidence in products made by local entrepreneurs,” she told Bernama at her booth today.
Kuih keria seller Mohamad Riduan Sukiman, 41, also welcomed the campaign, describing it as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to empower local industries.
“I hope efforts like this can be extended to rural areas too, because our local products are high quality. We just need to maintain momentum and ensure continuity to reach wider markets,” he said.
Visitor Noraini Md Yusof, 32, described the campaign as a timely move to help stimulate the economy of the people in the post-pandemic period.
“We have many locally made products that are not only of good quality, but also affordable. If we don’t support them, who will?” she said after purchasing several local snacks.
For business student S. Harvindran, 21, the KBBM is not only about showcasing local products but also about instilling patriotism among the younger generation.
“By buying local products, we’re not only supporting small traders but also contributing to national economic growth. In fact, many products by our entrepreneurs are on par with leading international brands. We must give our full support to the local industry,” he said.
Meanwhile, KPDN Business Development Division director Adiratno Che Ani said a total of 63 booths featuring local businesses and entrepreneurs were set up under the KBBM pavilion, not including strategic partners and national brands such as Proton and Perodua.
“The KBBM booths are not limited to food and beverages but also include household items such as mattresses, beauty products, clothing and a variety of local lifestyle goods,” he said.
He also urged the public to take the opportunity this weekend to visit the carnival, which runs until tomorrow, and support local entrepreneurs.
The KBBM 2025 was launched by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali yesterday, with the aim to expand market access for local products and reduce dependence on imports.
