KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Taiwan Excellence’s mascot, FuBear, has set a remarkable record by completing 186 high-fives with 70 participants in one minute, earning a place in the Malaysia Book of Records under the category 'Most High-Fives in One Minute by a Costume Mascot'.
Taiwan Excellence, in a statement, said that the record-breaking feat took place during the Taiwan Expo 2025, held over three days starting June 23 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
It said the challenge was part of the ongoing "Give Me Five! A Better Life" global campaign, jointly organised with First City University College, SAIEF Malaysia Fitness, the non-profit community service organisation REACH Segamat, and the Malaysian Creative Sewing Arts Association (PSJKM).
"The idea behind the record is to connect people’s hearts through high-fives and demonstrate Taiwan Excellence's concept of 'Innovative Solutions for a Better Life'. FuBear is not only the super cute mascot for Taiwan Excellence but also represents the values of caring, inclusivity and innovation," according to the statement.
It noted that through this simple act, FuBear had connected 11 regions worldwide, from Malaysia and Indonesia to Europe and the United States, to convey the positive energy of sustainability, good health and charity.
"FuBear made its first appearance in Kuala Lumpur at the Jom Heboh carnival in May and has since gained popularity with the public. This time, it brought its popularity to the Taiwan Expo 2025 to promote public welfare," it said.
In addition, FuBear collaborated with the Malaysian Creative Sewing Arts Association PSJKM to produce handmade, eco-friendly bags aimed at supporting disadvantaged women while raising environmental awareness.
"With REACH Segamat, FuBear hopes to encourage autistic children to unleash their creativity by creating FuBear-themed drawings, which are then made into limited-edition Touch 'n Go cards to show off the beautiful inner world of the children.
"All fundraising proceeds will be donated to the REACH Segamat training centre to support the education of autistic children," it said.
Apart from its record-setting and community outreach initiatives, Taiwan Excellence also showcased 40 high-quality products from 27 award-winning companies at the Taiwan Expo 2025.
"The products on display during the expo embody Taiwan's strength in the fields of healthy living and smart innovation and have no doubt brought new experiences to Malaysian industry, and FuBear's journey of spreading love will not cease even after the expo," the statement added.
Meanwhile, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (Taitra) Executive Director of Strategic Marketing Brian Lee said the mascot initiative was aimed at raising awareness of Taiwan Excellence products among Malaysians.
"The FuBear challenge reflects Taiwan’s Excellence innovations. We use innovative technology to make people's lives better," he told Bernama.
He added that the "Give Me Five! A Better Life" campaign, accessible via https://giveme5taiwanexcellence.com/, is open to participants in Malaysia and nine other countries, including India, Thailand and Vietnam.

FuBear’s journey of spreading love will continue after the expo, with upcoming visits to nursing homes and orphanages across Malaysia from July to share messages of compassion and warmth.
