Six Categories Introduced In Mpi-petronas Journalism Awards 2023

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Six categories have been introduced in the MPI-Petronas Malaysian Journalism Awards 2023, thus making it a total of 23 categories vying for the prestigious awards organised by the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), with a total prize money of RM450,000.

The MPI, in a statement, said the six new categories are the Best Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Journalism, Best Video Show, Best Radio Talk Show, Best Video Documentary, Best Video News Live Stream and Best Live Radio News.

MPI chief executive officer Datuk Mustapa Omar said Petronas agreed to renew its contract to sponsor the Malaysian Journalism Award (HKM) for three years from this year until 2025, with a sum of RM450,000 per year compared to the previous RM300,000.

"Beginning this year, the MPI, with the consent of representatives of media organisations, agreed to open participation of HKM to stringers who are registered with local media organisations and who meet the conditions of participation," he said.

He added that HKM 2023 participation will open on Nov 20 and entries will close on Jan 15, next year. It will be open to journalistic works in the form of news reports, articles, photographs and other news content that have been published and broadcast throughout the year.

The MPI also expressed its deepest gratitude to Petronas Group president and chief executive officer Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz for being committed to celebrating the diversity of the best works of journalism by continuing to sponsor HKM since 1994.
