KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Al Khairi Insurance Ltd (AKIL), a full fledge offshore insurance company with a takaful window has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with three companies today for a strategic one-year partnership.
According to AKIL's deputy executive chairman Nik Shazni Farhan Nik Mohammad Shah, the three companies are PM Protected Cell Company Ltd (PM PCC), Medex Healthcare Ltd and VFS Global.
Nik Shazni Farhan told reporters that this will be followed by formal agreements which will outline and specify the scope of products they want to collaborate on.
He said VFS Global is a multinational corporation offering visa and government services and it is operating in more than 160 countries.
The second MoU was with Medex Healthcare Ltd that manages and operates close to 20 hospitals in Saudi Arabia and any participant under their coverage may seek medical assistance at selected hospitals on a cashless basis.
He said PM PCC, incorporated in Melaka, offers insurance including asset insurance and AKIL will support their reinsurance.
The AKIL-PM PCC collaboration enables both to share and explore the reinsurance and retakaful market and captalise the expertise of both.
“PM PCC is anticipating to work with a group to generate businesses. For a start, we are initiating to provide an umrah and hajj medical assistance programme,” he said.
Nik Shazni Farhan said AKIL is a new insurance company established last January, and it focuses on Asia and other regions to provide medical assistance for pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia to perform their umrah and hajj.
“For this particular programme, we have partnered a few private medical institutions and hospitals in the vicinity of Tanah Haram both in Makkah and Madinah. They may seek medical assistance near their hotel, and for certain emergencies, we may also arrange for the doctor to go to their rooms for consultation and medical treatment,” Nik Shazni Farhan said.
He said the company aims to establish a market position in the next five years.
