MEDAC helping to revive transport industry after COVID - Noh Omar

KUALA LUMPUR, April 26 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDAC) will continue to assist in the revival of the transportation industry after being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Its minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said the industry was also seen to have the opportunity to grow more rapidly in the future.

"When the price of goods goes up, people will link it to high transportation cost and all sorts of other things associated with transportation.

"Indeed, without transportation our mobility is restricted. That is why we have to help revive the transportation industry, especially the ones that have been affected a great deal,” he said after the officiating of four new lorries of Mesra Indah Jaya Transportation (MIJ) at the MIJ Depot in Dataran Pahlawan today.

He said among the efforts made was the launch of a new financing product known as Commercial Hire Purchase Financing-i to strengthen the socio-economy of entrepreneurs.

“The Consumer Credit Act which governs the regulatory arrangements for all consumer credit activities also needs to be implemented immediately so that lending control and coordination activities can be carried out more effectively,” he added.

MIJ is a 100 percent Bumiputera company that has been entrusted with the delivery of medicines and vaccines together to Pharmaniaga.

The company also ships Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) and Pizza Hut raw materials to the Klang Valley and north and south of the peninsula.

"Delivery to the East Coast, namely, Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan, however, cannot be done currently as there are not enough lorries to meet the demand from KFC and Pizza Hut," said the statement.
