KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 -- The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad (NSTP) today announced a new editorial management line-up for its three newspaper titles, as part of the manpower rationalisation exercise announced by the Media Prima Group on Nov 1 last year.

NSTP in a statement said Saidon Idris and Ahmad Lokman Mansor were appointed the new Group Editor for Berita Harian (BH) and Group Editor of NST respectively, effective Jan 1 this year.

Another key appointment is that of Husain Jahit, the new Group Editor of Harian Metro effective March 16 this year.

According to the statement, Saidon’s appointment as BH’s Group Editor is the culmination of a long career within the NSTP which started in 1997, when he joined as a senior writer of Dataniaga, a business magazine published by the Group.

Saidon was made the Senior Executive Editor, Convergence, NSTP in January 2018, and a year later became a Senior Executive Editor, BH.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Lokman started his career with NSTP in April 1993 as a reporter for Business Times before eventually becoming its Deputy Editor.

Ahmad Lokman has also held several key positions within NST, including as Associate Editor of Current Affairs & Digital (2015-2016), Convergence Editor of Business (2018-2019) before being promoted to Executive Editor of Business, Op-Ed & Digital of NST in early 2019.

Husain, who was Harian Metro’s Executive Editor for Commercial, also has vast experience, having started his career at NSTP in January 1990 as a Marketing Assistant at Beriteks, a teletext service introduced by TV3.

Executive Director of News and Editorial Operations, Media Prima, cum interim Chief Executive Officer of NSTP, Mustapha Kamil Mohd Janor, said the appointments are clearly a testament to the Group’s internal succession planning and its belief in grooming talent from within the company.

"This also reflects our strong desire to strengthen NSTP’s position as the news and content provider of choice in the face of challenging business environment,” he said.
