Jamil Rakon is new Home Ministry sec-gen

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 25  -- Home Ministry's deputy secretary-general (management) Datuk Jamil Rakon has been appointed as the new secretary-general of the ministry, effective today.

Jamil, 57, succeeds Tan Sri Alwi Ibrahim, who retired yesterday.

The ministry in a statement said the announcement of the appointment was made by Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during the ministry’s post-Cabinet meeting today.

Holding a Masters in Human Resources Management from the Australian Defence Force Academy, Canberra, he started his public service at the Defence Ministry in December, 1992. He also has experience working in the Public Service Department and the Education Ministry.

"With his experience, knowledge and credibility he will empower governance and maintain the ministry’s excellence,” the statement said.

 The ministry also expressed appreciation to Alwi for all his contributions and dedication during his service there.
