MATRADE TO HOLD FIRST CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABILITY FOR EXPORTERS

12/11/2019 04:35 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12  -- Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) will organise its first conference focusing on building sustainability awareness among Malaysian exporters here on Nov 19.

MATRADE said the Sustainability-Ready Exporters Conference 2019 (Su-RE Conference 2019) is part of its corporate shared values programme known as the ‘Sustainability Action Values for Exporters’ (SAVE) launched on Oct 9.

“This conference offers a unique opportunity for Malaysian companies and entrepreneurs involved in export to gain relevant knowledge about the fundamentals that drive sustainability. It is to prepare them for a global marketplace which is changing rapidly.

"Both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) companies from around the world are demanding for products and services that comply with standards of sustainability and we have learned that some products have been denied entry into certain countries because of non-compliance with sustainability requirements,” said its chief executive officer Datuk Wan Latiff Wan Musa.

SAVE is a five-year plan to boost Malaysian exporters' awareness on sustainability, identify a sustainability benchmark suitable for Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in export, and match sustainable local exporters with buyers from around the world.

The conference will feature panel sessions highlighting topics such as the context of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in international trade, trade financing to support sustainability, sustainability as a value proposition to attract global buyers, and incorporation of sustainability in business’ supply chain.

The event is open to all SMEs, start-ups, mid-tier companies and large corporations which are keen to develop a strategic advantage in export by adopting the values of sustainability.
