KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 -- Engineering consultancy company ZEE Engineering Sdn Bhd expects to instal five of its ZEEpod offshore platforms for marginal oil and gas fields annually over at least the next five years.
Its chief executive officer and managing director Herman Perera said the company had received interest from international oil companies from several countries including Vietnam, India and Indonesia.
"They were waiting for the first one to be installed. Now we are getting enquiries," he told reporters after the announcement of the first ZEEpod for Vestigo Petroleum Sdn Bhd here today, adding that the cost to construct a ZEEpod is between US$20 million and US$25 million.
“This is meant for a smaller field,” added Herman.
The first ZEEpod was installed and commissioned in July 2019 for Vestigo Petroleum, a unit of Petronas, in the development of the Tembikai Non-Associated Gas (TNAG) facilities.
The Tembikai field is located approximately 150 kilometres offshore Terengganu.
The project was awarded to Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Bhd for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation of TNAG facilities.
ZEEpod, a Malaysian invention patented by ZEE Engineering, is a minimum facility wellhead platform (WHP).
The modular nature of ZEEpod’s substructure makes its easy to fabricate. It can be installed by a low capacity crane barge, thereby offering a functional and economical WHP.
