CABA announces initiative to boost China-ASEAN educational cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 29  -- The China-ASEAN Business Association (CABA) plans to strengthen education cooperation between China and this region and establish an educational platform regarding the Belt and Road Initiative.

Towards that end, the CABA Committee for the Promotion of Education, Technological and Cultural Exchange and Training for China-ASEAN Belt and Road Initiative has been set up, the association said in a statement today.

The initiative -- led by CABA together with ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology (AAET), Malaysia’s Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and other institutions -- came about following the China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Roundtable Meeting held in Qihe County, Shandong, on Monday. 

In his speech at the meeting, CABA president Tan Sri Lim Gait Tong said educational cooperation between China and ASEAN must be enhanced to achieve a better result in terms of technological innovation and skilled personal training.

According to him, both China and the region have exemplary traditional education systems and resources whereby with regards to the education system and apprenticeship programme, with each side possessing its own unique and beneficial characteristics.

Therefore, bilateral and multilateral cooperation should be expanded to increase the ongoing cooperation, he said.

“Substantive, institutionalised, bilateral education cooperation and exchange can be implemented gradually in order to achieve mutual economic prosperity and social progress,” he said.

In Shandong, CABA, AAET, UTAR and Shandong Farlim Tourism Development also inked a memorandum of understanding to promote education, economy, trade and technology in all sectors as well as cooperation between China and ASEAN.
