SANDAKAN, Sept 22 (Bernama) -- Senior citizen, Samiah Sabtu Mimdro who received a certificate in culinary arts from Tawau Community College today said, age should not be an obstacle in attaining knowledge.
Samiah, 55, said armed with the certificate she now aims to run a Tokoyaki Japanese food franchise business in Merotai, Tawau.
Samiah who enrolled for the course in July 2016 was among graduates who received their certificates at the 2019 convocation ceremony for Sabah Polytechnics and Community Colleges held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tiong Hua here today.
"I am proud to earn this certificate at 55, thanks to the support of my family.
"I had always been interested in culinary arts. Among things I learned were the proper techniques of cutting fruits and vegetables and the use of kitchen aids," she said when met at the ceremony.
Meanwhile, housewife Dollyana Doloh, 40, said success could happen at any age and what mattered most was trying hard in everything that you do.
Dollyana who received the Community College Director’s Award said the secret of her success was her ability to manage her time well while at home and in college.
"At home, after finishing the household chores, I will put all that I have learned to practice and if there was anything that I am unsure of I will refer to the lecturers.
“For now I shall continue with my online cake and pastry business,” she added.
