Hearing of Najib's 1MDB case postponed to Tuesday

Last update: 11/09/2019
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 -- Today’s hearing of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s case on charges related to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) has been postponed to Tuesday after he called in with an eye infection.

High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah postponed the hearing following an application by Najib’s lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

Muhammad Shafee told the court that he received a call from Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, at about 7.15 am today to inform that his client had conjunctivitis.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram did not object to the request by the defence to postpone the hearing.

It was the second time the hearing was postponed due to Najib’s eye infection.

The first was on Aug 14 during the SRC International Sdn Bhd's case which was postponed after Najib was given a three-day medical leave because of conjunctivitis.

Najib, 66, is facing four charges with using his position to obtain gratification totalling RM2.3 billion in 1MDB funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same money.

The Pekan member of Parliament is alleged to have committed the gratification offences at Jalan Raja Chulan branch of the AmIslamic Bank Berhad, at No. 55, Jalan Raja Chulan, Bukit Ceylon here between Feb 24, 2011 and Dec 19, 2014, while for the money laundering cases between March 22, 2013 and Aug 30, 2013, at the same place.
