KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 11 -- The South Asian Association of National Scout Organisations (SAANSO) has expressed sadness over the death of National Chief Scout Tan Sri Shafie Mohd Salleh today.
SAANSO secretary-general Abdullah Rasheed conveyed the association's condolences to Shafie's family and to the members of the Scouts Association of Malaysia and hoped that they would overcome their grief and move forward.
"We all remember him as a humble and dedicated scout leader who has served long for the development of scouting in Malaysia. He had a passion and a love for scouting.
"He had also done much for world scouting and in achieving the successful transfer of the World Scout Bureau from Geneva to Kuala Lumpur and has wholeheartedly fought and accomplished in seeking much of the Malaysian government support for this transfer with very generous contributions," he said.
Shafie, who was also a former minister of higher education, died at 9.30 am due to abdominal complications at the Selayang Hospital. He was 73.
