KUDAT, Sept 8 -- The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) confirmed that all 15 crewmen of a cargo ship that got stranded off Pulau Kalampunian early today were safe.
Kudat MMEA director Boon Chin Chau, in a statement here, said all of them were found unharmed.
Based on a report received, the incident happened at 5.10am while the vessel was on its way from Sandakan to Kemaman in Terengganu.
“We also sent out a patrol boat to inspect the area further and found no oil spills,” he said.
He said the Sabah Ports Authority and Sabah Parks office have been notified of the incident while the ship agent, registered in Kuching, have also lodged a report with the Kota Kinabalu Maritime Department.
“Early information revealed that the incident was caused by a faulty navigational device and the towing process will be handled by the ship agent.
