ALOR GAJAH, Sept 6 — Freeport A'Famosa Outlet (FAO) has come forward to assist the state government's effort in promoting Visit Melaka Year 2019 with offering hot balloon rides for the public at the vicinity of its shopping mall.

A'Famosa Resort chief executive officer Datuk Julian Lau said the rides, which began on Aug 6 and will end on Nov 15, cost RM100 per person for Malaysians and RM150 for foreign nationals.

The rides are on from 7.30am to 10.30pm and 6.30 to 9.30pm every day.

“It is a unique experience for those who go on the rides and we hope by offering these rides we can contribute in some way in making Visit Melaka Year 2019 a success,” Lau told reporters.

Handled by Jordanian hot air balloon pilot, Omar Zaid, who is also fluent in Malay, the balloon can accommodate three people per ride with a maximum weight of 200 kilogrammes, climbing up to almost 100 feet for a 10 minute ride.

Melaka Chief Minister Department Tourism Promotion Division General Manager Zairi Suboh, when contacted said the state government's was appreciative of FAO'’s efforts to promote its Visit Melaka Year campaign.

“We are constantly encouraging the private sector to come up with new tourism products as it will also benefit their company operations,” he said.

One of those who went for a ride was Nisa Safiah Omar, 31, who admitted to initially being nervous before calming down to enjoy a bird eye's view of the state's landscape.

Last month, state tourism, culture and heritage council chairman Datuk Muhammad Jailani Khamis said the state government was confident of attracting some 20 million tourists for the Visit Melaka Year 2019 campaign based on the 18 million arrivals so far this year.
