Seremban City Council : State govt studying legal implications - MB

21/08/2019 10:21 PM

SEREMBAN, Aug 21 -- The state government is studying the legal and regulatory implications of merging the Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) and Nilai Municipal Council (MPN) to enable the establishment of the Seremban City Council on January 1, next year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said this is the first time that two municipalities were being merged to form a city council and various aspects would have to be evaluated and examined.

"We have to discuss on the regulations and bylaws to be outlined as previously municipal councils were directly upgraded to city council status,” he said after chairing an exco meeting here today.

Seremban district was set to be officially declared as a city in January this year, in conjunction with the birthday celebration Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

However, the move was postponed as the building in Rahang which was being renovated to serve as Seremban City Council administrative office could only be completed at the end of last year.

In another development, Aminuddin said that there was a misunderstanding over the involvement of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Independence Day parade on Aug 31.

“We welcome their participation and there is still time for them to submit their entries," he said.
