KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- 2019 Premier League runners-up, Johor Darul Ta'zim 11 (JDT II) secured its second consecutive win in the 2019 Challenge Cup after defeating Kelantan 1-0 in a Group A match at the Sultan Muhammad Ke-IV Stadium in Kota Bharu tonight.
With the win, the Southern Tigers squad continue to top Group A with six points garnered and with two more games left.
In the match tonight, Lebanese forward Mohamad Ghaddar opened the scoring when he headed in a pass from Nicolas Alberto Fernandez in the 32nd minute.
Kelantan was reduced to 10 men when Mohd Azwan Mohd Aripin received his second yellow for fouling a JDT 11 player.
Meanwhile, defending champions Terengganu FC II (TFC II) failed make their home ground advantage count after being tied to a 2-2 draw with UKM FC at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
UKM FC and TFC 11 now share four points after two games played, although the former remain as Group B leaders on goal advantage.
In tonight's game, the home team went in front through a Bruno Suzuki spot kick in the 20th minute after UKM FC player K. Reuben handled the ball in the penalty box.
TFC II doubled its lead 10 minutes later through Ivory Coast import, Dechi Marcel who scored off an assist from Mohd Shahrul Aizad Zulkifli.
However, TFC11 failed to defend the lead after UKM FC raised their game in the second half with two goals.
'The Varsity Boys' scored their first in the 55th minute through Iranian player Milad Zanidpour, before substitute Faiz Hanif Adnan got the equaliser with just two minutes of regulation time left.
Another Group B game between Super League squad Kuala Lumpur and Premier League representative Selangor United will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras tomorrow.
