MELAKA, Aug 7 (Bernama) – The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) will be erecting and giving away about 14,000 Jalur Gemilang to get the celebration started for Merdeka Day on Aug 31.

According to MPHTJ president, Mohd Rafee Ibrahim, since the initiative started on July 25, thoroughfares and highways, as well as state buildings in MPHTJ jurisdiction, have already been decorated with 2,500 national flags of various sizes.

He said some 6,000 flags will be fluttering in tourist hotspots and “we will distribute 5,000 Jalur Gemilang to vehicle owners.

“And to make certain every Hang Tuah Jaya inhabitant joins in the campaign, the Licensing and Urban Services Department, and the Enforcement Department, have sent out over 5,000 reminders.

“The notices were given to all property owners including hotels, State Assembly Development and Coordination Committees (Japerun), community halls and leaders,” Mohd Rafee told reporters after launching the MPHTJ-level Jalur Gemilang 2019 campaign today.

The theme of Malaysia’s 62nd Merdeka Day celebration is ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku: Malaysia Bersih’ (Love My Malaysia: Clean Malaysia) and MPHTJ has lined up plenty of patriotic programmes and activities for the people at the Village Community Management Council (MPKK) level.

"A love for the country must be cultivated in everyone so that we treasure our precious independence and keep our harmony,” he said.
