KUALA NERUS, July 30 (Bernama) -- Terengganu FC (TFC) import defender Serhii Andrieiev vowed to give his level best to ensure that the ball will not reach, let alone pass over the Turtle Squad’s goal line in the Malaysia Cup opening match this Friday.
The Ukrainian player said he would not want to waste the opportunity and trust given by TFC acting coach Nafuzi Zain and his new teammates and hence, would translate his vow into action when TFC play against PKNS FC at Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu.
“Yes, it feels different to play with the ‘senior’ squad (TFC) compared to playing with my original team TFC ll, especially in terms of quality and game philosophy because this is indeed a different level altogether.
“However, I will try to put up my best performance and help the team to win the first match,” he told reporters after attending the training with The Turtle squad at the Gong Badak Stadium here.
TFC had to seek Andrieiev’s service to strengthen its defence for the Malaysia Cup tournament after several of its main players, including Wan Ahmad Amirzarfran Wan Nadris and Thierry Chantha Bin suffered serious injuries and had to be rested until the end of the Malaysia League season this year.
Meanwhile, Nafuzi said the 29-year-old player had displayed a good performance by scoring a goal in his first appearance with TFC in their Super League’s last match against Johor Darul Takzim (JDT) which ended with a 3-3 draw.
He said that was why they were putting such high hope for Andrieiev to help Terengganu to face the Malaysia Cup challenge after being drawn into Group A with ‘killer' teams of PKNS FC, Negeri Sembilan and Kedah, which had recently won the FA Cup.
“In the match against JDT, he was not just capable of displaying a good defence, but also scored an equally important goal.
“That is why I want Andrieiev to put up a much greater performance because the Malaysia Cup challenge is indeed tougher,” he added.
