MELAKA, July 10 (Bernama) -- Amal Relief Malaysia (Arif) in Melaka has come forward to help clean the homes of flash flood victims in the state.
Its director Khairil Anwar Samad said the effort was made to ease the plight of flood victims who returned to their house after taking shelter at a temporary relief centre (PPS).
“There are as many as 30 Arif volunteers in Melaka and we are ready to serve by helping to clean the affected houses for free,” he told Bernama today.
He said Arif Melaka had set a daily target of cleaning at least six houses and since last Sunday they have managed to clean 48 houses.
Khairil Anwar said most of Arif volunteers are aged between 20 to 50 and he welcomed other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and individuals who are interested to join them help the flood victims.
Khairil Anwar said his team was now assisted by several NGOs such as the Pertubuhan Prihatin Malaysia (MyConcern), Parti Amanah Durian Tunggal, students from Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTEM) and Territorial Army Regiment.
He said flood victims who needed Arif assistance could contact them at 016-9811 315 or 012-687 9046 for assistance for house cleaning.
A flash flood which hit the state over the past three days has almost recovered today when only two PPSs are still open with a total of 153 victims involving 36 families as at 8 am today.
