Plan to increase women participation in sports ready by December

PUTRAJAYA, July 2 (Bernama) -- The plan to increase women participation in sports will be ready this December, said Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
He said his ministry currently in the midst of discussions with various relevant parties pertaining to the plan which among others aimed at seeing more participation of female athletes by 2020.
“We want to ensure women (participation) in sports to improve tremendously and I believe there is a huge potential for growth,” he told reporters after attending his ministry’s monthly gathering here today.
Apart from empowering women in sports, Syed Saddiq said there was also a need to ensure greater representation of women in the top management of the National Sports Council (MSN).
On the preparation of the Malaysian team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Syed Saddiq said everything went smoothly with the involvement of MSN and the National Sports Institute (ISN).
“There were several qualifying rounds that we went through and there are events that we know who will be confirmed of their places in the Olympics team while there are others who have yet to finish the qualifying rounds,” he said.
