KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry is committed to raising the level of patient safety in this country through various strategies, besides collaborating closely with public organisations, the private sector and non-governmental organisations.
Its director-general, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement today said among the strategies was the creation of a patient safety policy, development of safe health facilities and environment, as well as safe research and treatments.
"May 25, 2019 was a historic day for patient safety when the ‘Global Action on Patient Safety’ resolution was adopted by the 72nd World Health Assembly (held on May 20-28) in Geneva, Switzerland.
"The resolution urged member countries of the World Health Organisation to recognise patient safety as a key health priority and to take concerted efforts tom reduce patient harm in the healthcare setting,” he said.
According to him, the resolution also viewed patient safety as a critical health element in universal health coverage with the people being able to feel confident that the healthcare system provided is safe.
“Therefore, in this matter, the Health Ministry will continue to cooperate strongly with the relevant parties not just within the country but also globally,” he said.
