KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 (Bernama) – An own goal by Selangor captain K. Sarkunan in the last minute of play helped Terengganu FC score a 1-0 win in their match at Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, Kuala Terengganu tonight.
The midfielder deflected the ball into his own goal when Terengganu FC were attacking in the 90th minute.
The result enabled the Turtles to break a three-match winless streak and at the same time broke Selangor’s record of being unbeaten in six away matches this season.
Both teams had failed to find the net until then, with Terengganu FC striker Kipre Tchetche’s attempts in the 45th and 85th minutes being denied by the crossbar.
With the three points, Terengganu FC have jumped to fifth spot with 20 points in the Super League while Selangor remain in fourth place with 22 points after 15 matches.
Meanwhile, in Premier League action, table toppers UiTM FC failed to widen their lead at the top when they were upset 2-1 by newcomers Selangor United at Stadium UiTM, Shah Alam.
Selangor United took the lead through a quick counter-attack by Montenegro import, Danko Kovacevic, in the 27th minute before Brazilian import Maycon Rogerio equalised in the 47th minute.
Selangor United scooped three points through a penalty kick taken by Franklin Clovis in the 60th minute, which was awarded when a UiTM FC defender brought down South Korean import Hwang Sin Young in the penalty box.
The match was marred by a red-card incident when Muhammad Faizal Mohd Arif was given the marching orders by referee Muhammad Nasruddin Muhammad Tamrin after collecting his second yellow card in the 85th minute.
In another match, Iranian import Milad Zeneyedpour’s goal gave UKM FC a 1-0 victory over Negeri Sembilan at Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Paroi to break their eight-match winless run.
