KOTA KINABALU, May 21 (Bernama) -- The Ramadan Roadshow by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), a program which is in its eighth year, is the best platform to get close to people at the grassroots level, especially the poor.

Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the roadshow to villages and rural areas enabled RTM to get information such as the problems and the living condition of the people to be channeled to the relevant authorities.

“I also hope that RTM through its various mediums of broadcasting can help the state government and Cabinet ministers to spread the vision and mission of the government and ministries.

“It will also enable the people to have a clear idea of the plans and programmes which have been drawn up to build the socio-economy and economics of the state. I am confident RTM will be able to carry out this responsibility in line with its role as the official media of the government,” he said in his speech at the launch of the RTM Ramadan Roadshow programme organised by Sabah RTM here today.

The text of his speech was read out by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong.

Mohd Shafie said RTM was an important department as its role was not only to shape the thinking of the people but also the behaviour and identity, especially of the younger generation which now has unlimited access through cyber space.

He added that RTM must therefore play a role in building society by providing information which is true, accurate and valid.

Meanwhile, Communications and Multimedia Ministry deputy secretary-general (policy) Shakib Ahmad Shakir said in  his speech the RTM Ramadan roadshow programme in Sabah began on May 15 with Keningau as the first location, before it went on to Tawau (May 17), Sandakan (May 19) and Kota Kinabalu today.
