Nurses play a role as a bridge between doctors and patients

JOHOR BAHRU, April 24 (Bernama) -- Nurses are seen as true unsung heroes, often playing a role  as the bridge between doctors and patient.

Realising the importance of nurses, the Regency Specialist Hospital (RSH) and Mahkota Medical Centre (MMC) recently organised a seminar which was aimed at boost nursing as a career choice. 

RSH chief executive officer Serena Yong said nursing was a growing and comprehensive healthcare provider industry which valued manpower development.

“We want to give them this platform to raise (their) confidence, to recognise them and more importantly, to salute them for choosing a noble profession.

"More than 250 participants attended today’s seminar and the benefits for them (in this seminar) is the networking, to talk to each other and more importantly, we want to increase public awareness by sending out these kind of messages," she told Bernama at the seminar here, Saturday.

Also present was MMC chief executive officer Stanley Lam.

Meanwhile, Lam said it was important for the seminar to become a platform for these nurses to share their knowledge and exchange ideas in order to progress in the profession.

"Nursing being the backbone of the healthcare  industry, we need to continuously be making improvements and embrace the challenges such as the technologies so that we can serve the community and patients better," he added.

One participant, Oh Jie Wen, 23, from RSH said this year was her first year serving as a nurse.

"I think I can learn a lot from this seminar, like responsibilities and the commitments a nurse need to make, and improvements for lifelong learning," she said.
