KUANTAN, March 24 (Bernama) -- Sungai Belat, a river running by Kampung Belukar here, was the “first training pool” for Abu Dhabi Special Olympics 2019 World Summer Games bronze medal winner, Muhammad Adam Zikry Syamsul Bahri.
Muhammad Adam Zikry, 16, a student of the Special Education Integration Programme at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Paya Besar here, won the bronze in the freestyle event on March 19.
Suffering from learning disability, the lad said the bronze medal had fired him up to do better in future.
“I have always been fond of swimming since I was a kid, this was my first international event and I thank Allah for my success. I aim to work harder to win a gold medal in future,” he told the media after arriving at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Airport here last night to a hero’s welcome.
The fourth of seven siblings learnt to polish his swimming skills at the Wisma Belia Swimming Complex in Indera Mahkota here.
His mother Siti Rohaida Melan, 45, said she was very proud of his success while his coach Mohd Rohaizal Mohd Rozali, 40, sees brighter things ahead for the spirited teen.
