KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa has praised the Communications and Multimedia Ministry for its contribution in enabling the arrest of a suspect who allegedly insulted Prophet Muhammad on Facebook.
"I thank the ministry and also the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission in facilitating the police in making a speedy arrest of the suspect,” the minister in charge of Islamic religious affairs said in a statement here tonight.
He urged the police to carry out the investigation fairly and transparently irrespective of the suspect’s background and for the law to take its course to serve as a deterrent to others from going down the same path.
Police arrested a 68-year-old man in Mentakab, Pahang today to assist investigations into the case following a police report lodged in Batu Pahat earlier.
The act has raised the ire of Muslims in the country.
