KOTA KINABALU, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Sulaman assemblyman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor today welcomed the stand of Parti Warisan Sabah to accept the entry of Bersatu into Sabah, saying Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is a mature and experienced leader who wants to see all Sabahans, regardless of race, remain united.
“Good relations and close cooperation between the state and federal governments are crucial to the interests and well-being of Sabahans besides providing for continued effective development,” he said in a statement.
Thanking Mohd Shafie for accepting the entry of Bersatu to Sabah, Hajiji said: “I and my colleagues will always extend our cooperation to the state government, especially in terms of the good policies for the good and future of the people and the state.”
Mohd Shafie had said yesterday that Warisan, which he leads, would not stop Bersatu from spreading its wings to Sabah.
Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had confirmed recently that the party would spread its wings to Sabah.
Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Pasok Momogun Kadazandusun Murut Bersatu (UPKO) vice-president Datuk Ewon Benedick said he hoped that the entry of Bersatu into Sabah would realise the aspirations of Sabahans to regain their rights as embodied in the constitution.
“I believe Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has the space to implement those things which he was unable to do when he was the fourth prime minister, particularly in terms of oil royalty and taxes,” he told reporters.
Ewon, who is the Sabah Minister for Rural Development, said the important thing now was to determine how to harmonise the relationship between the state and federal governments to ensure that our demands, such as for a bigger oil royalty, could be implemented,” he said.
