PUTRAJAYA, Feb 8 (Bernama) -- The deadline for feedback and suggestions for the national education policy review has been extended from Feb 28 to March, said chairman of the National Education Policy Review Committee (JKD), Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Ibrahim Ahmad Bajunid.
He said since the committee was formed on Oct 18, it had held a series of meetings with about 2,500 stakeholders to get their feedback.
Ibrahim added that the committee had received more than 2,000 views, with many ‘impressive’ ones.
“We believe a report of the review which will be submitted to the Education Ministry on April 30 will bring changes to the national education policy,” he said in a press conference held here today.
Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik had previously announced the formation of the committee which would be an independent body to review the national education policy, Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025 (pre-school to secondary school), and the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015-2025 (higher education).
The committee with its 13 members will work with the National Education Advisory Council (MPPK) to review the national education policy before making proposals to the Education Department on April 30.
Suggestion can be submitted through the link https://goo.gl/forms/fq0dj2BFqQPoGEZx1 or via email to jkkdpn@gmail.com or write in to the JKD secretariat, Education Policy Planning and Research Department, Ministry of Education, Level 3 Block E8, Kompleks E, 62604 Putrajaya.
Ibrahim said Malaysia had inherited a good education model from the British based on the Oxford University and Cambridge University models, but developments in culture, science and technology required changes to the education policy.
“Our Examination Board is linked to the Cambridge Examinations Syndicate, we also inherited the protocol to build the curriculum and teacher education model which is among the best.
“We inherited all these and we built on them, but there are some areas which we have to clarify. Development is not one-off, but on-going,” he said.
