KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 ( Bernama) -- An army sergeant was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here today with breeding aedes mosquitoes in the compound of his house at the army quarters in Desa Tun Hussein Onn Camp here, three years ago.
Norkamarulzaman Suid, 36, however, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial after the charge was read before Magistrate Wong Chai Sia.
The man was alleged to have created an environment that could help Aedes mosquito larvae to breed in a plastic container placed in the compound of his house at the military camp in Jalan Jelatek here, at 10.45 am on Sept 13, 2016.
He was charged under Section 13 (1), read together with Section 13(2), of the Destruction of Disease-Bearing Insects Act 1975, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000 or jail term not exceeding two years, or both, upon conviction.
The court set Feb 19 for remention and for the accused to appoint a lawyer.
