LANGKAWI, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- A total 35 local and foreign teams have confirmed participations in the 2019 Royal Langkawi International Regatta (RLIR) championship from tomorrow until Jan 12.
Royal Langkawi Yacht Club (RLYC), general manager Tayfun Koksal said the participations were from eight countries, namely, Malaysia, Australia, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, United States and United Kingdom.
‘’It is an honour to see 35 participations this year or a 34 per cent increase compared to the 2018 RLIR.
‘’I expect stiff competitions in all categories but most awaited is the Racing Class whereby the defending champion for two consecutive years, namely, the THA72 team from Thailand, will be vying with three teams from Malaysia and one team from Australia in the category,’’ he told a media conference here today.
He said all the teams had started their training sessions today and the wind and weather conditions at the resort island were expected to be good during the championship.
2019 RLIR, which is organised by RLYC, would take place for five days and seven categories would be contested.
