KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The new national prototype car is expected to be introduced to the public as early as next year, said Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
In sharing the latest development on the third national car project, Mohamed Azmin said the matter was discussed in the National Development Council meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday.
"We will share the prototype with the public soonest next year," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.
He said in realising the government's aspiration to produce a new national car, the government was focusing on enhancing local engineering competitiveness and creating new ecosystems that are innovative and technologically friendly.
Pakatan Harapan which took over the central government after the 14th general election on May 9, was set to launch the national car project 3.0 by 2020 as envisioned by Dr Mahathir.
It was believed that the move to launch the third national car could revitalise the national automotive industry.
