KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Palestine Ambassador to Malaysia, Walid Abu Ali, said reports claiming that Saudi Arabia has barred Palestinians from performing their Hajj and Umrah in Mecca, were not true.

He said the recent meeting between Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas and King of Saudi Arabia, Raja Salman Abdul Aziz Al Saud, who is also the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, was a clear indication of the stand taken by both countries in the matter.

“Saudi Arabia's stand on the issue of justice for Palestine has never changed and is very clear….this matter (Palestinians not being allowed to perform their Hajj in Saudi Arabia) is not right and is far from the truth.

“Saudi Arabia believes that peace and stability in the Middle East region cannot be achieved without the acknowledgement of Palestine as a sovereign country based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital city,” he told Bernama after a gathering with Palestinian citizens at the Embassy of Palestine here on Thursday.

An online news portal recently carried a story alleging that the move to bar the Palestinians from performing their pilgrimage, was part of Riyadh's new policy to stop issuing Hajj and Umrah visas to Palestinians in Jordan, Lebanon, Jerusalem and Israel.
