TELUK INTAN, Oct 11 (Bernama) – The flood situation in Hilir Perak area is worsening as the number of flood victims evacuated to flood relief centres is increasing.

According to a statement by the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the Teluk Intan Municipal Council (MPTI) hall di Taman Desa Aman Batu 6, Jalan Maharajalela here became the second flood evacuation centre to be opened in the district following the overflow of Sungai Perak and the high tide phenomenon.

The evacuations involved 34 more victims from nine families from Kampung Sri Jaya and Batu 7 Jalan Maharajalela from 5 pm, the statement said.

To date,  202 people from 56 families were at the temporary relief centres (PPS), including 168 victims from 47 families housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Changkat Jong, today.

The floods reportedly hit the Changkat Jong area at about 7 am Wednesday (yesterday) believed to be due to the overflow of Sungai Bidor following heavy rain since Tuesday evening.
