Last update: 09/10/2018
PORT DICKSON, Oct 8 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed hope that  the voters in Port Dickson will give victory to Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the parliamentary by-election to enable the government to continue working for the people.

“I hope victory will be given to PH, to Anwar (PH candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim).

“I hope we can continue working, not for Anwar, not for Dr Mahathir or Mat (Mohamad) Sabu or Lim Guan Eng, but for the country that we love, for the Malaysian people who have given the opportunity to PH to take over administration of the country,” he said at the ‘Ceramah Mega PRK Port Dickson programme here tonight.

The Port Dickson by-election is seeing a seven-cornered fight between Anwar, PAS’ candidate Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar and five independent candidates, namely former Negeri Sembilan Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, Anwar’s former aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, former lecturer Lau Seck Yan, social media personality Stevie Chan Keng Leong and management consultant expert Kan Chee Yuen.

The by-election is being held after its incumbent Datuk Danyal Balagopal Abdullah, 68, vacated the seat on Sept 12 to give way to Anwar to return to Parliament. The Election Commission has set Oct 13 for polling and tomorrow for early voting.

The Port Dickson parliamentary constituency has 75,770 registered voters in this by-election and they comprised 43 per cent Malays, Chinese (33 per cent), Indian (22 per cent) and other races (two per cent).
