KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- The Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) is expanding its expertise in the field of marine and oceanography sciences, said vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Nor Aieni Mokhtar.
She said various initiatives had been undertaken by the university including offering programmes in Masters of Business Administration with universities in Mauritius, specialising in the field of oceanography and marine sciences.
“In October, UMT will for the first time, franchise a UMT MBA course in maritime time management in Mauritius. We are going global because it is in our strategic plan. We have to invest in this. We hope to see some kind of transformation,” she told Bernama.
Nor Aieni said UMT had also planned to engage expertise from abroad to improve its syllabus, learning quality and research.
“We will engage expertise from abroad as visiting professors, fellow and scientists to UMT. We want to develop and expedite the process of knowledge transfer and technology,” she said.
Meanwhile, she said areas with marine biodiversity such as coral reef and seabed mineral resources, required good management and laws.
Therefore, the university has set up an ocean governance research team to ensure the sustainability of the marine resources, she added.
