SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- A 21-year-old youth was remanded for six days, beginning today, to facilitate investigations into two armed robberies at a launderette and a 24-hour convenient store here on Tuesday.
Also remanded was the suspect’s 32-year-old wife.
Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit issued the remand order.
The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
The couple was detained when the man’s mother surrendered him to the Kuala Muda police headquarters at 1.30 pm yesterday.
The police are in the midst of tracking down another suspect in connection with the case.
They were believed to be linked to a daring armed hold-up at a launderette and a 24-hour convenient store in a span of 15 minutes in Taman Puteri Jaya and Taman Ria here, whereby the incidents were caught on the CCTV cameras .
The footage went viral on social media, a few days ago.
