Strong quake hits Loyalty Islands

KUALA LUMPUR,  Sept  11 (Bernama) – A strong earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit the south-eastern part of the Loyalty Islands,  906 km South West of Nadi, Fiji, at 3.31 am today.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, the epicentre of the quake was at 22.2 degrees south and 170.1 degrees east off the islands with a depth of 10km.

However, it did not pose a tsunami threat.
