Dec 26 eclipse prayer being held at 19 Perlis mosques

KANGAR Dec 24  – If you didn’t already know, there will be an annular solar eclipse on Dec 26.

Hence, Muslims are encouraged to congregate and offer the solat sunat gerhana matahari (eclipse prayer) to Allah as Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did.

A statement from the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JAIPs) today said 19 mosques in the state will be holding the prayer.

On the above-mentioned date and at 11.20am, it will be held at four main mosques: Masjid Alwi, Kangar; Masjid Negeri, Arau; Masjid Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, Kangar; and Masjid Al-Hussain, Kuala Perlis.

After the Zohor prayer, it will be held in the following 15 mosques: Masjid Al Huda, Felda Mata Ayer; Masjid Ar Rahman, Kampung Belukar, Beseri; Masjid Al-Solihin, Chuping; Masjid Al-Islah, Ngulang; Masjid Jannatul Naim, Beseri Sungai Paya; Masjid Al-Imarah, Abi Batas Paip; Masjid Muhammadi, Jejawi Sungai Adam; Masjid Saidina Umar, Kampung Guar Syed Alwi; Masjid Al-Firdaus, Kampung Padang Besar Selatan; Masjid Al-Munir, Batu 5, Jalan Kuala Perlis; Masjid Al-Mursyid, Guring; Masjid Al-Falah, Behor Mempelam; Masjid Nurus Salam, Behor Mentalun; Masjid Ameer Fawwaz, Kampung Sungai Baru; and Masjid Al-Furqan, Kampung Bunga Emas.

Also called the ‘Ring of Fire’, the rare eclipse will be visible from the Middle East and Asia, and is expected to last from 11.26am – 3.27pm.
