CYBERJAYA, 5 Sept (Bernama) -- The National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP), to be unveiled on Sept 19, aims to make the country's mobile and fixed network more comprehensive, of high quality and affordable.
"The NFCP will create more new jobs, improve the standard of living and attract investments into suburban and rural areas," said Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Al-Ishsal Ishak in a media briefing on the NFCP here today.
Al-Ishsal said broadband services are a necessary utility towards economic growth and a platform which enables local entrepreneurs to become part of the global supply chain.
He said Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo’s stance on the country's network services -- “double the speed, half the price” -- has shown several positive impacts.
Positive developments include an average of 49 per cent decrease in broadband prices, 10 times higher broadband speed and higher market value for telecommunication companies, he said.
Between Oct 31, 2018 and Aug 16 this year, Al-Ishsal said the market value of telecommunications and multimedia companies listed on Bursa Malaysia increased by 25 per cent.
As at Aug 16, the communications and multimedia industry represented 9.4 per cent of market capitalisation of companies on Bursa Malaysia.
