MARANG, July 17 (Bernama) -- The Marang Prison is the first jail in Peninsular Malaysia to obtain Malaysia’s Halal Verification Certificate (MHVC).
Marang Prison director Wan Sani Ab Latiff said the success was a result of the collaboration between the kitchen unit and guidance from the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) in ensuring all the certification criteria were met.
"Prior to this, whenever there were visits from the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) and the International Committee of the Red Cross to the Marang Prison, the kitchen cleanliness would be criticised.
"We took the criticism as a challenge to make a change for the better and the result is that we now have the MHVC, and our kitchen has been classified as very clean (Category A) by the Marang District Health Office," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after receiving the MHVC from JHEAT deputy commissioner (Islamic Affairs) Mohd Azam Awi at the Marang Prison here, today.
