USIM tasked to be identity coordinator for Negeri Sembilan traditions

NILAI, July 14 (Bernama) -- The Cultural Centre of Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) has been given the task to be Negeri Sembilan’s identity coordinator of  its traditions which are said to resemble those in Indonesia.

The centre’s director Ismail Ahmed admitted that it would be a difficult job as most of the state’s culture and arts are connected to the Minang community in West Sumatra, Indonesia.

Ismail said the idea by the state Department of Culture and Arts was for a state identity via music, customs, architecture, cuisine, clothing, games, art sand flowers.

“We also agree that the arts, especially the music forms in Negeri Sembilan, need to be unique and superior compared to others,” he told Bernama here today.

He said USIM also hoped that the music of Cak Lempong and Bongai which have developed in the state could be adopted for the purpose so that future generations could recognise and continue preserving the heritage.
