KOTA KINABALU, June 4 (Bernama) -- Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said today Muslims should be more sensitive and wiser in screening and understanding information to avoid straying into extremism and terrorism.
He said Muslims in the country faced security challenges with the existence of extremism, false teachings and terrorist movements.
“Hence, Muslims have to be more sensitive and wiser in filtering information. Although Malaysia is the third most peaceful country in the Asian region, it is not easy to maintain that status,” he said in his Aidilfitri message.
Malaysian Muslims celebrate Aidilfitri tomorrow.
Mohd Shafie also urged the people to strengthen unity among the various races in the state as they celebrate Aidilfitri.
“Set aside all differences, enjoy the existing harmony with an open heart, visit each other, forgive each other and enjoy the wide variety of delicacies,” he said.
Mohd Shafie also said that the state government leadership is mindful of the challenge of the uncertain global economy.
“As the state leadership, we want to ensure that the benefits of economic development and prosperity can be enjoyed together and equitably.
“The state government is also committed to the promotion of local products that can boost the influx of tourists to the state. As we know, the services sector - including tourism and government service - remains a major contributor to the state’s economy,” he said.
