ALOR SETAR, May 11 (Bernama) -- Grabbing the chance to do good during the month of Ramadan, a drink seller in Taman Pelangi, Jalan Kuala Kedah, here has been selling drinks for as cheaply as RM1 each  since 2016.

Ahmad Thalhaah Ahmad Sabri, 34, said he sells all types of drinks, but the most popular is the iced tea, with about 1,000 packets flying off the ladle each day, making him an internet sensation last year.

“When I first started selling iced tea at RM1 during Ramadan in 2016, I sold only between 200 and 300 packets a day. After the news went viral on Facebook and on the television programme ‘Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan’ last year, sales of my iced tea shot up and together with the other drinks, I could sell up to 1,500 packets a day,” he told Bernama today.

However, the iced milo and iced nescafe drinks were being sold at the usual price of RM2 a packet, he said.

Despite the cheap prices, Ahmad Thalhaah said he could still make a profit from selling his drinks during to the volume of sales.

“Even though I sell at RM1, but I ensure the quality of my drinks. So far, all my customers are happy with my iced tea, and I even have regular customers,” he said.

His stall is open from 5 pm to 8 pm during this Ramadan, while his workers would begin packing the iced tea from as early as 4 pm.

“I have five workers, but I make the iced tea myself. I make it early and my workers pack the drinks so that the customers do not have to wait too long,” he said.

Ahmad Thalhaah said sales shoot up to 2,000 packets a day during the end of Ramadan as more people return to Alor Setar to celebrate Hari Raya.

“On the last day of Ramadan, I give away 2,000 packets of iced tea to customers who come to my stall, it is just my way of doing charity,” he said.
