Search for missing Acap should be based on true Islamic teachings - FT Mufti

GOPENG, April 9 (Bernama) -- The search for Gopeng Ultra Trail (GUT) 2019 participant Mohammad Ashraf Hasan who is missing since March 23 should be based on true Islamic teachings, said Federal Territories mufti, Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.

Zulkifli also agreed that the public should constantly pray, perform solat hajat (special prayers for a wish to be granted) and beseech the The Almighty as these efforts could bear fruit.

“Doing things not in accordance with divine rules and beseeching supernatural beings, expecting this to be effective or give you special power is not in line with our religious teachings and a futile attempt if Allah does not will it.

“As Muslims, we should seek help from Allah,” he told reporters today when visiting the site of the search and rescue operation in Kampung Pintu Padang, here, for the missing 29-year-old, affectionately called Acap.

Zulkifli expressed confidence that Mohammad Ashraf, who has gone missing for 18 days now, would finally be found.

“I also hope that we are all together in this, striving to find Ashraf. We pray that he is safe and well. God willing, this will end soonest possible,” he said.

Mohammad Ashraf, from Muar, Johor, was in the GUT 2019 on March 23 with 485 other male and female participants. They took off from Gua Tempurung for the 25km category run which should end the same day at the starting point.

His disappearance was realised by his friend, Mohd Farid Md Kamal, 32, when he failed to return after the run ended and the latter then lodged a police report.
