KUANTAN, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- The Magistrate’s Court here today sentenced a garbage collector who pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle to pay for his wife’s surgery to a year’s jail.
Magistrate Nor Azizah Aling, when handing down the sentence on Raja Saddam Shah Raja Hamkar, 27, said stealing was an offence no matter for what reason.
“In life, we have to realise that not everything is easy, there’ll be hitches and obstacles along the way. It’s true, you were in difficulty, but (stealing) is not the way,” she added.
She ordered Raja Saddam Shah, who is from Felda Bukit Kuantan, to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest, which was Oct 6 this year.
He was charged with stealing a Honda EX5 motorcycle belonging to Zul Zaidde Ngamera (repeat: Zul Zaidde Ngamera), 32, between 9 pm and 9.50 pm in Kampung Seri Mahkota Batu 12 here last Oct 1.
The charge, under Section 379A of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to seven years and is liable to fine, if found guilty.
In mitigation, Raja Saddam Shah said he was desperate for money to pay for his wife’s surgeryas his wife was sick.
“I’m a garbage collector with a salary of about RM800 and seven people in the family to support. I promise not to commit the same mistake,” he added.
