BATU PAHAT, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) has introduced a new programme, the Executive Diploma for Professional Imams to produce imams who can handle problems relating to religious issues.
Acting director of the Institut Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah (IASWJ) in UTHM, Professor Datuk Dr Abdul Razak Omar said the programme was jointly developed by the institute together with the university’s Continuing Education Centre (CEC), the Johor Islamic Religious Department (JAINJ) and the Johor Islamic Religious Council (MAINJ)
He said the first intake for the course was in early October and it is open to all imams appointed by JAINJ and the Johor State Mosque to upgrade the post of imams.
“Through this programme, the students will learn to apply knowledge professionally, ethically and compassionately, to resolve religious issues and interact professionally with the public,” he said.
Abdul Razak was speaking at the launch of the programme, the first of its kind in the country, by JAINJ director Rofiki A. Shamsuddin at UTHM today.
