KUALA LUMPUR, April 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Turkiye are set to strengthen cooperation in the media and communications sectors, including through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and content exchange initiatives.
The matter was discussed during a courtesy call by Turkish Ambassador to Malaysia, Emir Salim Yuksel, on Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil here today.
In a Facebook post, the Communications Ministry said both sides exchanged views on key areas, including online safety, as well as collaboration in broadcasting and media.
The discussions also explored opportunities to enhance cooperation through the finalisation of an MoU on public relations and communications, it added.
The meeting reflects the close and longstanding bilateral ties between Malaysia and Turkiye, with further discussions on matters such as online safety, broadcasting and content exchange initiatives involving Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM).
Also present were Deputy Secretary-General (Strategic Communications and Creative Industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, the Communications Ministry said that Fahmi also received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Spain to Malaysia, José Luis Pardo Cuerdo.
According to the ministry, the meeting, also attended by Abdul Halim and Nur-ul Afida, paved the way for an exchange of views on current developments, including the situation in West Asia, in addition to strengthening bilateral ties in the communications and media sectors.
“The discussion also focused on online safety, with Spain sharing developments on new legislation to protect children in the digital space.
“Malaysia also shared its implementation of eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer), as well as the proposed restriction on social media use for users under the age of 16,” it added.
The ministry added that both parties also explored potential media cooperation, including collaboration between Bernama and Agencia EFE in news and content exchange.
